This Machiya stands on Jingumichi property, which was built in 1912 (1st year of Taisho period). The luxurious space of the interior was renovated according to the owner’s style, who is an architect. This townhouse is located within walking distance of Heian Jingu Shrine, Nanzenji Temple, Kiyomizu Temple, and Gion, therefore it’s the best place to stay, especially if you plan on doing a lot sightseeing in Kyoto.
As you step into the entrance, you will be greeted by an impressive Fujinraijinnzu, a Japanese brush painting depicting an image of Wind God and a Thunder God.
The Fusuma of this house depicts a majestic image of a “White Tiger” (Byakko), which is considered a masterpiece of this guesthouse, hence the name.
The kitchen space is combined with an antique dining room to create a luxurious space.
The walls and ceiling of the room located at the rear of the house, are made with Washi (Japanese paper) material, which adds warmth to the room. This room can also be utilized as a bedroom.
Next to the Dining Room there is a tatami room, which provides a calm space. Relax and enjoy the spacious traditional Japanese room.
We’ve also prepared cooking utensils for those who are tired of eating out.
In this luxurious bedroom, the beams of the house are structured in a unique and dynamic way.
We’ve set up a Kiyomizu Ware wash basin on top of the counter that is made of Kyoto’s Kitayama cedar. The sunlight that enters from the garden offers a warm and comfortable feeling to the space.
Enjoy bathing in the semi-Rotenburo, an open-air bathtub in our spacious bathing room while admiring the small outdoor garden.
Two shower rooms are installed to accommodate a larger number of guests, so that guests can use the bathrooms without rushing.
Open the Yukimi-Shoji (a glass window at the bottom half behind the sliding panel) and admire the four seasons of Japan together with the soothing sound of water trickling into the stone basin in the garden and the sound of the summer wind chime. Sit in the rocking chair by the edge and enjoy this peaceful space away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The detailed garden transforms and is able to express various moods, according to the weather. At night, the outside lights illuminate the house, creating a completely different mood of the house than the day time.

A sturdy pillar supports the roof through the center of the ceiling, giving you a sence of security while offering a space filled with history. The sofa at the foot of the bed offers a spot where you can enjoy some reading time.

This guesthouse is designated as an important cultural property, which was built in 1902 (Year 35 of Meiji period). This exceptional interior was made for guests to experience the true quality of a traditional Japanese interior. The place is located right near Kamishichiken, one of Kyoto’s Kagais, a geisha district.
The entrance today still remains the same as when it served as an entrance for the old Kyo-Machiya house.
